A Kyrgyz National of Order of Lenin Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Abdylas Maldybaev (167 Abdrahmanov St.).
On 2 November 1926, a Kyrgyz national studio for training of theatre workers has begun. This date is considered to be the origin of the Kyrgyz professional theatre.
On 7 November 1930, within the base of the studio, a Kyrgyz State Theatre was created, which in the summer of 1936 was reorganised into the Kyrgyz musical theatre. In 1939, the Kyrgyz musical theatre was awarded the Order of Lenin. On 17 August 1942, Musical Theatre was renamed to the Theatre of Opera and Ballet. In 1959, it was awarded an academic status. Since 1978, it was named after a composer and a national artist of the USSR - Abdylas Maldybaev. In 2000, it received a status of "National".
There are permanent opera and ballet groups in the theatre, and also established cooperation with the visiting teams. The season usually lasts from fall to late spring, but there are performances at other times of the year. There are more than 150 opera and ballet performances that have taken place. A great contribution to the development of the National opera and ballet art arrived from directors such as M. Ahunbaev, A. Kuttubaev, V. Vasiliev; conductors include V. Tselikovsky, A. Maldybaev, K. Moldobasanov, N. Davlesov; artists include A. Aref, A. Moldokmatov; and choreographers - N. Holfin, N. Tugelov, U. Sarbagyshev, etc.
In 1955, a modern building of the Theatre of opera and ballet was built (architects L. Laburenko, P. Ivanova). Top

Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theatre named after Toktobolot Abdumomunov (located at 222 Abdumomunov street).
It was created in 1941. The basis of the group consisted from actors such as N. Kitaev, S. Dzhamanov, D. Kuyukova, B. Kydykeeva, K. Eshimbekov, M. Ryskulov, Sh. Tyumenbaev and others who had previously worked in Youth Theatre and Music and Drama Theatre.
The theatre has staged the best works of Soviet and foreign classical and contemporary drama.
In 1958, the theatre was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. In 1971, it was awarded the academic title. In 1997, the theatre was named T. Abdumomunov. In 1970, a modern building of drama theatre was built with 800 seats. Top

The State National Russian Drama Theatre named after Chinghiz Aitmatov (located at 122 Tynystanov street in Oak Park). The theatre was established in autumn 1935. The first creative troupe consisted of the graduates of the acting department of GITIS of I. V. Lunacharsky. In 1939, the theatre was named after N. K. Krupskaya. In 1976, for the contributions to the development of theatrical art, the State Russian Drama Theatre of Krupskaya was awarded the Order of Friendship of People. In 1989, the theatre was awarded the title of Academic. In 2007, the theatre received a status of National and was renamed the State National Russian Drama Theatre. In 2008, the State National Russian Drama Theatre was named after the master of world literature -Chinghiz Aitmatov. From the beginning of 1935, the walls of the theatre held more than 15,000 performances. Performances are staged in Russian on the works of local and foreign playwrights. In 1971, the reconstruction of the theatre for 900 seats was completed. The building is now on a reinforced concrete frame with brick fillings and u-profiled glass. Top

Bishkek City Drama Theatre named after A. Umuraliev.
The theatre was founded on 25 April, 1993 by the National Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Arsen Umuraliev and the theatre's critic Tsytsygmoi Umuralieva as an alternative to academic forms of state theatres. The theatre focuses its programme on different age groups.
It is a small theatre, playing pieces of local and foreign authors. The performances are staged in Kyrgyz, Russian and other languages.
The ideas of the theatre include aesthetic of theatrical performance, overcoming stereotypes, experimentation of different types and forms of performing arts, preservation and development of traditional culture and cooperation with figures of culture and art of different countries.
The main task of the theatre is to develop an aesthetic criteria of the younger generation through the presentation to the public of the achievements of world culture, the formation of its audience.
The theatre did not have its own facility and the team of the theatre nestled in the library named after Bayalinov (formerly known as Chernyshovk) and the Russian Drama Theatre. In 2003, the theatre was given a room in the building of the Sverdlovsk administration, which required refurbishment. In 2012, the city administration has allocated funds for the full refurbishment. It is the only municipal theatre in Bishkek city. Top

Kyrgyz State Puppet Theatre named after Musa Zhangaziev.
It was established in 1938. Performances are shown every Sunday. There are 110 people employed by the theatre. There are 30 actors, 15 directors and staff. Top

Children's creative association "Rabayat". Puppet Theatre on the move (It is located at National Library of K. Bayalinov, 242 A. Ogonbaev street).
Puppet Theatre was founded in 2002 at the children's creative association "Rabayat" and has children's stories in Kyrgyz and Russian languages in its repertoire.
There are 18 employees in the Puppet Theatre "Rabayat". Among them are the leading theatre artists who have devoted many years to dolls: Yuri Matvienko, Madina Azizova, Oksana Gogol, Ainura Osmonalieva, Altynbek Asakeev, Janybek Karmyshakov and others. Top

Ordo-Sakhna folklore-ethnographic theatre.
Theatre "Ordo Sakhna" was established in 1999 (1998) under the leadership of Shamil Zhaparov who collected a team of talented musicians, winners of international and regional competitions, folk artists of Kyrgyzstan. Its repertoire is varied: from ancient archaic works to the music of folk-jazz.
The success of the ensemble allowed the band to tour both within the country and abroad (USA, France, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan).
The theatre consists of folk orchestra and a small dance troupe. The main task of the theatre is the preservation, promotion, distribution of Kyrgyz folklore. Top

Kyrgyz National Conservatory (115 Dzhantoshev street).
The Conservatory was established by Presidential Decree in 1993. The initiator of creation - Muratbek Begaliev - composer, National Artist of Kyrgyzstan, laureate of the State Prize of Toktogul, academician of the International Academy of Arts (Munich) and music (Moscow), Honourary Doctor of the University of Seoul (Korea).
In 1998, he received the status of the National Conservatory.
The KNC is a leading educational institution in the education system which includes vocational schools of Kyrgyz Republic: Kyrgyz State Musical College named M. Kurenkeev, Karakol Music School named Tumanov, Osh Music School of Niyazaly and RSSMS of Abdraev.
There are 4 faculties and 14 departments at the conservatory for pianists, singers, performers using Kyrgyz folk and symphonic instruments, artists of music industry, chorus and orchestra conductors, composers, musicologists, choreographers.
On conservatory base, there are big Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Folk Instruments and Brass orchestra of Bishkek city administration. The Kyrgyz National Conservatory holds up to 300 concerts a year. Top
